Our curriculum

Finding out more about our curriculum
If you would like to find out more about our curriculum, please contact Miss Chappell via the school office, to make an appointment.

Our long term plans show the content of the curriculum in each academic year for every subject.
Cultural capital
At Seghill First School, we offer the children much more than the academic curriculum.  We want to provide more opportunities and experiences which will allow the children to develop cultural capital, create memories, and grow into knowledgeable and enquiring members of society.

Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to be educated citizens.

Our aim is that by the time our children leave our school, we want them to be equipped to become responsible global citizens.  We want them to be the very best they can be.

We compliment the opportunities we offer through our taught curriculum with additional opportunities for our children.  It would be impossible to list everything we do, but here are just a few examples of opportunities that we provide to develop cultural capital-
  • all children visit a theatre to see a performance;
  • all children have the opportunity to take part in a residential visit;
  • all children have the opportunity to learn to ride a bike safely;
  • all children learn to play a musical instrument.
